Telephones, mobiles, internet must maintain the highest standards in service and price. Upgrades should be monitored to ensure that they will benefit the user and not the manufacturer who is simply trying to make more money.
The NBN needs to be the state of the art with all cables being optic fibre and not partly using copper wires. We must have an efficient high speed NBN over the entire country, so that places like Far North Queensland are not left wanting.
This ministry will be responsible for overseeing all media platforms from television, radio, cinema, social media platforms and any other public communication. It will ensure that the platforms stick to the law and do not engage in propaganda or biased content. Freedom of speech will be maintained at all levels, but in a respectful and responsible way.
This Ministry will be responsible for all licensing of the media, with an emphasis on fairness and in the interests of the people and the country.
It is time that we started taking real action regarding cyber security. We should be automatically blocking all countries incoming emails and then leave it to the consumer to decide which countries emails they will allow to be received. We need to set up a department that specialises in cracking down on hackers and spammers, a place where the public can report spam so that we can block it at source.
Every user will need to use their own identity to be able to login and use any media platform, which requires login credentials. This will help reduce spamming and trolling as these persons will be identifiable. This is not to invade people’s privacy, but to have accountability. It is possible to have a central register where you register and are then given a unique identification number and it would be that number that is used to login to platforms. This way the platform will not know your personal details, but if you are guilty of a crime they could lodge a formal complaint or investigation with the government department to find out who you are.
This will enable people to vote in on-line referendums, elections and surveys, or where the public opinion or input is required and we don’t want duplication. We want to emphasise that this is not “Big Brother” by stealth, it cannot be used by the Government to monitor your internet use. Nor is it to restrict your access to the internet. You will not need to use your ID for general internet use. Its main purpose is to help support our policy of open Government and public participation, where we genuinely want your opinion on a proposed Government policy, before it is implemented.
We will abolish all laws and regulations relating to so called misinformation and disinformation. This legislation is designed to restrict people from having an opinion and being able to express it freely. No one has the right to impede the free speech of others, as this is how tyrants prevail.
Too many new businesses and some existing businesses, run their business through a hotmail, gmail or outlook domain’ e.g. johnsgardening@hotmail.com The problems with these free domains are, that many emails end up in spam or junk folders, or the business is not taken as genuine or serious, as the @hotmail address turns some customers off. We will set up a free Australian Government domain service, where genuine businesses can register and then be able to use the domain @AUSBIZ.com.au. This will enable new start-up businesses to have a domain that is recognised as genuine and for Australian businesses. The site can be monitored to block and eradicate spam and junk mail and it will be protected against cyber hacking. It will be on a “first come first served” basis, so businesses will need to get creative with their name, but this will enable new businesses to set up their emails with relative ease and help them grow their business.
